On Thursday, March 20, 2025, the central role of Italian universities was celebrated on the occasion of National University Day. The event, promoted by CRUI (Conference of Italian University Rectors) and supported by the Ministry of University and Research, focused on this year’s theme “UNIVERCITY: Universities for the city and beyond the city.” The focus was on university cities, considered hubs of innovation, growth, and sustainable development for our country. The initiative, called “Università Svelate,” involved 85 universities across Italy and served as an important moment for reflection and celebration for the entire university system.

The University of Bergamo also participated in this day, organizing three roundtables with particular attention to the transformation of university territories. In particular, the roundtable titled “UniBg Research Hub for the Plain. Action-research in a rapidly transforming territory” took place this morning at the Auditorium of Cassa Rurale BCC in Treviglio (BG). The meeting saw the participation of Olivo Foglieni, President of FECS Group, in his role as Representative of Confindustria Bergamo for the Bergamasca Plain.

Experts and institutions discussed the challenges and opportunities of transforming the territory of the middle Lombard plain, addressing crucial issues such as production, logistics, urban organization and environmental and social sustainability, in front of a large and very attentive audience.

The event was made possible thanks to the collaboration with BCC Treviglio, the City of Treviglio, the Province of Bergamo, and Confindustria Bergamo. It was an important opportunity to reflect on the value of universities and university cities as strategic drivers for the progress and innovation of our territory.
