Stemin has released the first edition of its non-financial report for 2021, highlighting the growing significance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles in its business model.

“This document,” stated President Foglieni, “which marks our first non-financial report, stems from our desire to share a journey we embarked on long ago. A journey increasingly focused on sustainability—not only in terms of production processes but also in the responsible use of natural resources, the well-being of people both inside and outside the company and our relationships with stakeholders and the surrounding territory. Our commitment to achieving leadership in sustainability is deeply rooted in our core values.
Our goal is to continue investing in new and virtuous aluminium production supply chains while fostering a corporate and environmental culture that is ever more responsible and receptive to sustainability issues. We see this document not merely as a report but as an open dialogue and ongoing exchange with all our stakeholders, aimed at constantly improving ourselves, our activities, and our impact on the world around us.”

For Stemin, environmental responsibility has been a core value since its inception, founded on the recovery and recycling of secondary raw materials. However, this alone is not enough. Environmental sustainability is a broader concept that encompasses work, community, people, and the environment itself. That is why this report serves as a journey through our industrial reality—to understand how we operate and what more we can do.
ESG items are becoming increasingly crucial for conducting business sustainably and guiding the entire organization on a long-term path where these indicators and themes integrate seamlessly with our industrial strategy.

With pride, we can say that we are building a more sustainable reality, step by step, setting ever more ambitious goals—goals that align with the fundamental responsibility we must uphold to ensure that future generations inherit a world at least as rich as the one we found. This commitment is the very essence of sustainability.

Today, recovering aluminium from scrap already means significantly reducing energy consumption, requiring 95% less electricity compared to primary production while avoiding extractive activities and preserving a key raw material for modern industry. However, we strive to do even more. Our goal for the coming year is to reduce emissions by 2% through more efficient, technologically advanced plants and increased self-production of electricity from renewable sources.
