Ciserano (BG), November 2019 – Radiatori 2000 S.p.A., a leading company in the aluminium die-cast radiator market, has been using oxygen combustion technology within its production cycle for many years to reduce the environmental impact of its activities. The pure oxygen, necessary for the melting activities, was previously stored in liquid form and transported via tankers.
As part of its ongoing improvement process for employee safety and environmental awareness, Radiatori 2000 S.p.A. requested SOL S.p.A., an Italian multinational leader in the production and marketing of technical gases, to have direct access to the existing oxygen pipeline in the area. A long-term supply agreement was signed, allowing Radiatori 2000 to receive oxygen directly through an underground pipeline (2.5 km in length), eliminating the need for liquid gas delivery.
Compared to receiving liquid gas via tankers, the supply through the underground pipeline will bring significant benefits both in terms of workplace safety for employees due to reduced internal vehicle movement within the plant and in terms of production efficiency, making Radiatori 2000 more flexible and self-sufficient with regard to gas supply, ensuring continuity of production.
The positive territorial impact is also noteworthy, as the local community will notice a significant improvement in traffic flow and a consequent reduction in environmental impact. The elimination of road transport (approximately 500 heavy trucks per year, equaling about 104,000 km traveled) will lead to an estimated reduction in CO2 emissions of 92,100 kg per year, along with a decrease in nitrogen oxides and particulate matter.
This project, together with a focus on employee training and updates and investments in 4.0 technology, is part of the sustainable industrial development plan that the FECS Group, of which Radiatori 2000 is a part, has been pursuing for years. The goals regarding environmental respect, improved workplace quality, and innovation and production efficiency form the foundation of the business strategies set by the Group’s president, Olivo Foglieni.
“In a critical moment for the international market, this significant decade-long investment is part of a broader development plan, demonstrating a strong desire to grow, especially by valuing and respecting the territory in which we operate,” says Arianna Scaravaggi, CEO of Radiatori 2000.
Only through daily and continuous improvement activities in production processes can we achieve great benefits for the environment, the community, safety, and the sustainability of industrial activity within a globalized market. Thanks to awareness and knowledge, we can become protagonists in sustainable development.
