This week, Bologna is recognized as the global hub for environmental issues.

At a particularly pivotal moment, with the United States having announced its intention to withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate policies, Italy takes a firm stance and embraces sustainability.

#ALL4THEGREEN is the inaugural national forum on the circular economy, initiated by the global partnership program Connect4Climate of the World Bank, with the support of the Ministry of the Environment and organized through the direct involvement of universities, associations, and businesses.

More than 70 events animate the city of Emilia, aiming to raise awareness and provide insights into sustainable development and environmental protection, in anticipation of the G7 Environment, which will be chaired by Italy on June 11th and 12th.

Environmental sustainability and the respect for our planet are fundamental values that are particularly important to our Group, as they drive the core of our business.

Our Group’s commitment to environmental protection through the circular economy.

For years, the FECS Group has been operating under a “circular economy” model, starting with the collection of metal and non-metal waste, processing and revaluing it to obtain finished products that are, in turn, recyclable.

The coordinated efforts of all the entities within our business network have, over the years, enabled the FECS Group to become a European leader in the disposal and recycling of metal waste, with over 150,000 tons of raw materials recovered and reintroduced into the market.

In a country like Italy, which lacks raw materials, the goal has always been to create something from nothing, finding potential even where it was not thought to exist. This is why, following this approach, waste is no longer seen as a cost, but as an invaluable resource that can drive progress and profit without harming the environment and the territory in which we live. On the contrary, it helps preserve it for future generations.

What does circular economy mean?

Not everyone truly understands what circular economy means, and this Forum can be a great starting point for educating individuals and businesses on a topic that is truly fundamental for our country.

Etymologically, Circular Economy is the term used to define an economic system designed to regenerate itself (Source: MacArthur Foundation)

The principle it is based on is, in fact, to create a continuous and replicable relationship, so that materials (biological or technical) are not created or eliminated, but rather transformed.

Thanks to this process, it is possible to reduce waste and the consequent landfill disposal, but most importantly, to lower CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, also reducing energy production costs. It is estimated that adopting a circular economy approach could generate a growth of 1.8 trillion euros globally by 2030, compared to the current economic system (read more here).

Being green is now fashionable, but what it truly means and how companies can actually operate under this framework can sometimes be difficult to understand.

The hope is that, with the support of institutions and dedicated funds, businesses will increasingly be able to produce and generate profits through sustainable practices and circularity: this would be beneficial for both the environment and the economy.
